About Me

I am Fabienne,

master Graduate Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology. I have a passion for inspiring people and this is what I strive for in my designs as well.

I believe that we, as designers, have to tackle the complex issues we face in today’s society in a more personal way. Therefore I want to engage people with my designs – trigger people to find personal solutions themselves. In my processes I combine my eagerness to learn with a holistic approach, to design poetic experiences which engage the user and invite them to take on action.

For my Master graduation project I worked on methods to increase audience engagement for the Scottish Ballet. This project was executed within an internship at Fabrique.

I worked on this graduation project for one academic year – from November 2016 to June 2017. On this website you can find the final concept and the process than lead to this concept. At this moment I am exploring ways to develop this concept further. Please contact me if you want to collaborate.

The Dancer's Signature

Design For Meaningful Communication from Dancer to Audience

The Dancer’s Signature is an designed approach that allows dancers of Scottish Ballet to share their dancing experience in a meaningful and authentic way. More specifically the Dancer’s Signature helps the dancer to communicate how they experience their choreography by combining dance with an experience drawing and the dancer’s story.

The experience drawing is a sketch of how a dancer experiences a specific phrase in the choreography and is key to the Dancer’s Signature. This is because the experience drawing invites the dancers to reflect on how they experience this phrase. Moreover the signature functions as a support to communicate this experience to others authentically. In particular in an open and non-judgemental way. The experience drawing, together with the actual dance and the story of the dancer forms the Dancer’s Signature. All these elements together aim to give a good representation of the dancer’s experience.

In the vast array of audience engagement activities from Scottish Ballet, the Dancer’s Signature intends to help dancers to contribute to these activities by communicating their dancing experience. Something that otherwise stays hidden from the audience. Additionally the Dancer’s Signature provides a new medium for audiences to engage and connect with Scottish Ballet. By helping audiences to understand how dancers experience choreography, which hopefully results in a closer connection between dancer and audience

To have dancers creating these Dancer’s Signatures autonomously and independent from the marketing department, a toolkit was designed. The Toolkit is a Product-Service-System that facilitates the processes required create the Dancer’s Signature.

The system consist out of three phases: Collect, Capture and Share. These phases were designed to fit the Dancer’s Signature into the existing structures and practices of Scottish Ballet. The product, a folder, and the service, and iPad application are designed for this system.
