the Design Process

Timeline

  • Capture Effort

What if the dancers would be able to communicate their effort in dance, which is normally hidden on stage, to the audiences? With drawing explorations I explored how we could capture the dancers’ experience of the dance. I asked the dancers to remember a phrase of a performance and capture this in a drawing with […]

  • Prototyping Iteration 2

Explore different ways to visualize the dancers experience of phrase(s) in the performance. Furthermore explore different ways to present this visual to the audience and communicate the connected stories.

  • Considering the full service

The extensive literature research, analysis of the Frankly Green + Webb audience study, personal experience and the interviews with the audiences at Scottish Ballet resulted into an extensive understanding of the customer journey. This knowledge was translated into a customer journey, service blueprint, persona overview and a website proposal. The customer journey and service blueprint were also […]

  • Protected: Audience Engagement Session

During my first visit to Scottish Ballet a research session was organised with two audience members of the Focus group of Scottish Ballet. Audience members were invited to an unique opportunity to watch the companies’ rehearsal, in exchange for participating in this session. During the session the customer journey was explored and first ideas were […]

  • Visiting Scottish Ballet

With a visit of 6 days to Scottish Ballet I was able to experience a lot of activities and qualities of this company. These insights allow me to create a design, which is not only interesting for the audience, but also matches the vision and ‘vibe’ of Scottish Ballet.

The first and biggest activity I’ve done […]

  • Prototyping Iteration 1

Through small physical and technical explorations I tried to find ways to connect the dancer with the audiences. Since light was the first concept, I started of this this by connecting pressure (sensors that could be in the pointe shoe) with light. This connection was quite literal and captured only a very superficial part of the dance. […]

  • Protected: Probe Analysis

The main goal of my cultural probe was to create a better understanding of the dancers’ perspective on their audiences and audience engagement. Furthermore I aimed to see if the participants were interested in a more active dialogue with the audiences and what other roles dancers of the Scottish Ballet could play in audience engagement.

    I […]

  • Brainstorming the Customer Journey

Based on the feedback I’ve received on the three concept proposals and the insights from the Cultural Probe Study I analyzed the concepts and extracted important qualities. Now I am trying to implement these qualities in concept #2: Connect to the dancer. Through brainstorm sessions, prototypes and discussions with involved stakeholders the concept slowly but steadily starts to grow.

    One […]

  • Interim Results

I have summarized my results so far in a interim report, which you can browse trough on issue.

I’ve presented these insights and officially received a Go to finish this project for my graduation!JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3R5bGUlM0QlMjJ3aWR0aCUzQTUyNXB4JTNCJTIwaGVpZ2h0JTNBMzM3cHglM0IlMjBiYWNrZ3JvdW5kLWNvbG9yJTNBJTIwYmxhY2slM0IlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjIlMkYlMkZlLmlzc3V1LmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkLmh0bWwlMjMxMzcwNjQ1NiUyRjQzNjY1NTI2JTIyJTIwZnJhbWVib3JkZXIlM0QlMjIwJTIyJTIwYWxsb3dmdWxsc2NyZWVuJTNFJTNDJTJGaWZyYW1lJTNF

  • Project Vision

To define an approach that matched my personal vision on design I defined my design brief based on the theory of cultural competence. As Kesner mentions, a further demand to visit an art organisation and therefore become repeat visitors can be predicted by Cultural Competence. Cultural competence is the ability to look at art and […]
